Suphi Yurek
I had no idea that New York City, where I arrived first as a tourist; would draw me in with its magic and then I found my new home Brooklyn five years ago.
My early artistic childhood memories starts with my uncle's and my brother's huge Coca Cola bottle and logo oil paintings on delivery trucks in seventies Istanbul. Our house was like a big artist studio with aggrandizer for photo printing, linoleum printing molds, small size ceramic oven, other art materials and artist friends of my brother.
My formal education started at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts Academy in Istanbul. I studied Painting, Sgraffito, Fresco and Lithography at this oldest and the most prominent fine art school in the country.
Mosaic, pattern design and painting are my professional areas of expertise. I enjoy creating reverse glass paintings, drawing patterns, making digital and traditional illustrations and doing art history research the most.
Besides my 2014 solo exhibition, I have participated in numerous mixed exhibitions. My past works also include published illustrations, magazine covers, graphic designs and vignettes for various magazines. Between 2014-2015, I worked as an art director at Rengigul Art Gallery as well.
And oldest focuses on new techniques, new materials and most importantly, a question of knowledge and experience which in short is meaning of my life.
Artistic vibrance and endless variety in New York excites and uplifts me. Beyond all, Spiritualism and Sufism moves me.
